speculative work: my take on this

what is Speculative “Spec” Work?

any job for which the client expects to see examples or a finished product before agreeing to pay a fee.

degrading as it may seem, the painful truth about it is that a majority of us here in ‘Pinas practice spec work.

can you go in a restaurant and request for a taste test before ordering?

there’s a reason why we guys build portfolios, you know?

just say no. continue with it and you’ll look desperate, not to mention destroying our industry’s reputation.

don’t worry, there are a lot of projects out there. ;)

Don't design on spec.

Tama. Don’t ever give a taste of your service until they agree to pay a price. If they need proof, that’s where our portfolios come in. Parang agencia lang yan, would they give free billboards just to get the client? Of course not.

A website is just like a billboard, brochure, bizcard, store all rolled into one and it’s interactive and results are highly measurable and it costs less.

Some people just do not understand how hard it is to come up with the right design that will speak of the brand.

thanks aldo, for expounding on my rant.

but then again, there’s still an exception.

    why do agencies “pitch”?
